Is there sugar in pure cranberry juice?

There is no added sugar in pure cranberry juice. That’s why it’s so amazingly tart and delicious! Pure cranberry juice is a great way to get the amazing health benefits from cranberries without the added empty calories of sugar.

This is true for the following the following brands that we’ve reviewed:

  • Ocean spray
  • Lakewood Juices, and
  • R.W. Knudsen
  • Trader Joe’s (store brand)
  • Whole Foods, 365 Everyday Value (store)

However there is natural fruit sugar in pure cranberry juice.

There are approximately 9 grams of sugar in an 8 oz service of pure cranberry. This may vary slightly between brands producing the product but from what we see it’s a small variance.

Pure cranberry juice also doesn’t have other fruit juices added. Cranberry cocktail and cranberry juices are typically “cut” or mixed with other juices to make them sweeter. The most common fruit juices blended with cranberry juice are grape, apple, and pear.

Curious to know the difference between cranberry cocktail and cranberry juice? It’s a subtle difference but it comes down to the type of sugar added. On average pure cranberry juice will have 40 – 50% fewer calories than cranberry cocktail juice since it doesn’t have that added sugar.
